The Missing Education of Your Vagina

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

There are many things in every day life that we tend to take for granted. Knowing how to brush our teeth, how to comb our hair... knowing how to tie our shoes, if we are an able-bodied adult. We all have memories of exactly how we learned to complete these tasks. We just keep them tucked away in our subconscious and truly don't think about the specifics of how they're done until perhaps we have to teach someone else how to do them; like our own children.

As a birth worker, fully invested in the well-being and overall health of each and every woman I work with, I often think back to the ways in which I was taught to care for my own body. To my first memories of being taught how to bathe; which part of my vagina to wash with soap and which part to simply cleanse with water. It's something I never thought about much until an increasing number of young ladies and mature women, shyly communicated to me that they weren't completely sure that they were doing it right and Google didn't seem to have an answer they were comfortable trusting.

So often, in my one-on-one sessions counseling one woman after the next, the great scope of just how little so many knew and understood about their own body began to reveal itself. What a normal menstrual cycle looked like. What normal discharge looked like. What the length and heaviness of a menstrual cycle was communicating about the health of the individual. What the color, smell, and consistency of discharge was communicating. How to ensure the health of their pelvic floor. Although these women were all born with a vagina, they admittedly had a limited knowledge and familiarity with their own. And for some reason, discussing the uncertainties surrounding their knowledge (or lack thereof) of their most secret, intimate body part was just too taboo to confront by seeking professional input.

It was a void. An all too familiar void that I recalled having myself before pursuing education that would help me to answer my own questions. So now that I'd helped myself, it was only natural to move past self and begin sharing my knowledge with the many women in this world that need it. The courses that I have developed and continue to develop, address the need for women to receive a thorough education on being well-acquainted and thoroughly knowing their own body.

Often when we encounter questions or issues that have to do with our womanhood, we look at our vagina as a separate entity that needs to be addressed. I am firmly convinced that the health of a woman's body is comprehensive. Fitness, nutrition, emotional well-being and balance, all work in concert with one another. To address only one would be to neglect all others. And to that point, we must address them all to fully understand what in the world it is we're missing where our vagina is concerned. Join me in the journey of helping you discover the missing education of your vagina.
